How this program helps you

  • It’s a scheduled, small group program so you can build supportive relationships with people who understand what you are going through.
  • It’s educational and empowering. Our program materials help you understand addictions, what to expect when going through the recovery process with a loved one and how to take care of yourself when things get challenging.
  • It puts you in touch with our counselling team who can identify and refer you to additional resources and services to meet your needs.

Program Essentials

  • Small, scheduled group
  • Once a week for six weeks
  • Program takes place twice annually
  • Entry to the program is through a modified intake process where you will meet with our Intake Counsellor and complete a form with some basic personal information. This usually takes about an hour. You will need to make an appointment.
  • Your friend or loved one does not need to be a current or former Participant in an SRWC program for you to be able to access the Family program.
  • Administrative & program fees are on a sliding scale.

When You Contact Us

When you get in touch with us, our receptionist will ask you some questions and set up an appointment with an Intake Counsellor.

These appointments are available Monday to Friday and take about an hour. You will need to come to our office in downtown Winnipeg.

Don’t forget to bring your medical card, and try to be sober for at least 12 hours (or 48 hours if it’s meth).

At Your Intake Appointment

During your intake appointment, which might last an hour, you’ll meet with an Intake Counsellor. Your Counsellor will help you fill out some forms, and talk to you about your situation and needs. The Counsellor can also help with any urgent issues and connect you to more help if necessary.

Together, you will decide which is the right program for you.

Your Intake Counsellor will introduce you to your Program Counsellor. They will let you know when you can start.

Starting Your Program

On your first day, show up at the SRWC reception area on the 5th floor of 280 Smith Street at least 30 minutes before the group begins. Tell the front desk know it’s your first day.

Your Program Counsellor will give you a tour and explain how the group works, and what to expect. They’ll also get to know you a bit and make sure you feel comfortable here.

Reconnecting with Us

If have already participated in an SRWC program, and need more support, we’re always happy to welcome you back. If it is less than 3 months, you can re-join your group by letting your Counsellor know. If it has been more than 3 months since you last attended, you will need to call for an intake appointment before you can re-join the program. This is to make sure you get the support that fits best with where you are at right now.
