This week, as so many of the kids in our lives are returning to school, and the “out-of-office” emails are on the decline as late summer starts to settle in, two of the SRWC team are travelling to BC.
Specifically, we are sending them to attend the Recovery Capital Conference in New Westminster, BC..
What is Recovery Capital?
“Recovery Capital” is the assets and strengths that contribute to an individual’s ability to sustain the healthy lifestyle that is a life in recovery. This includes social capital (such as healthy and stable relationships), material capital (such as finances and accommodation), human capital (mental and physical health, skills, and employment) and cultural capital (values, beliefs, and attitudes).
SRWC uses a strength-based model, meaning for each individual we help them identify strengths in themselves and their environment, as well as strengths or assets they would like to further develop. We help them assess these areas and see what they want to change, or celebrate what changes they have already made.
What is the Recovery Capital Conference?
“The Recovery Capital Conference of Canada will feature leading international researchers, clinicians, and policymakers who will provide evidence-based clinical knowledge gained through decades of care. Speakers will present evidence-based research that explores specific measures of Recovery Capital. Presenters will also explore how medication and professionally delivered psycho-social treatment modalities, mutual support and spiritual-health programs, cooperative recovery houses, and recovery-oriented workplaces are increasingly supported by research.” (website)
This year, speakers include Dr. William Miller (original developer of Motivational Interviewing), Dr. Ross Laird (Developments in Neuroplasticity), Dr. Christina Basedow (Enhancing Recovery Capital Through Trauma-Based Treatment), among others.
If you will be at the conference and would like to say, look us up. You can message us via our Facebook page.
See you there!
